On Monday 30 October 2006 four workshops were held under the overarching theme of "Sustainable Historical Cities - Economics, Preservation and Visions for the Future". Seven Australian and five International speakers presented papers on the four topics which provided insights on best practice and current thinking regarding urban conservation and development in our historical cities.

On Tuesday 31 October 2006 the roundtable forums commenced at which international speakers from member cities of the League of Historical Cities addressed the four topics of the major theme from their own cities’ perspectives and shared information on projects and challenges that they have experienced in reconciling heritage preservation with the demands of economic development in a modern, progressive society.
